![]() Founded in the 1930's by Frank Putney, Putney's Brake & Clutch was originally located at Sanford Avenue & Main Street. Later Frank moved the company to 102 Wentworth Street North. Doug Crossman came to work for Frank as a mechanic in the early 60's and purchased the company in 1964. Doug changed the name to Putney's Brake & Alignment Service. Doug kept the Putney's name out of respect for Frank, who continued on a part time basis with Putney's for 18 years. In 1977 Doug moved the shop to its current location at 574 Wentworth Street North. In 1992 Doug's son Paul came to work for him and eventually became the Service Manager. In 2008 Paul finalized the purchase of the company from Doug and so began the next chapter in the hopefully never ending story of Putney's Brake & Alignment Service. Doug and the core staff from the last 25 years are still here to serve you. Both of Paul’s growing boys have showed an interest in taking over the business. Well they have the coffee break and bossing dad around down pat. We will work on the sweeping floors and fixing cars later on. ![]() Over the years Putney's has weathered the industry and economic storms by remaining a local family owned business based on honesty and hard work. It has always been our goal to keep abreast of the changing industry trends and we take pride in our employee training and equipment upgrades to remain competent in our trade. We have participated in the ATSSA, CFMS, I-Car, Ontario Garage Association, Doctor Brake, Skilled Trades, Jobs Ontario, OSSA and many other industry created associations to further train and inform our industry. Hamilton has been evolving from and Industrial Steel town to an emerging power house in the medical and bio-sciences sector and with the amalgamation of many of the surrounding townships the Greater City of Hamilton has a very large agricultural business sector. The current economical structure of Hamilton has changed very much in the last half century and will change even more in the next ten years. With our current global economic trends and the vast changes to our industry the next five years is going to prove to be interesting and challenging. Putney’s to be immortalized in 2010!!! This just in. In the fall of 2008, Whiz Bang Films used Putney’s and two of our technicians in a pilot episode of a new series titled ‘Lawyers, Guns and Money’. The pilot episode was enthusiastically excepted by a network and 12 more episodes have been funded for filming in 2009-2010. Whiz Bang Films returned twice in August 2009 to shoot the transformed Putney’s as Tolstoy’s Autobody a Russian Mafia Run Chop Shop for the television series title of ‘Cra$h & Burn’. We are also now on Facebook. If anyone has any history, stories, pictures or articles about Putney's Brake & Alignment, Frank Putney and his family or the Crossman clan. I would greatly welcome what ever was provided. Putney's Brake & Alignment Service Steering, Stopping & Stability Experts. 574 Wentworth Street North Hamilton, Ontario L8L 5X3 P: 905-522-4621
